A broad-based business development opportunity to join a team focused on fostering transatlantic business relations between the US and its top economic partner in Europe. Applications are invited for an unpaid full-time internship position at the British Consulate-General, Chicago.

Job Summary:
UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is the British Government’s international business development agency. UKTI is charged with transatlantic trade development between the US and the UK and with assisting American companies looking to invest in the UK. (See www.ukti.gov.uk).

Main Job Functions:
• Assisting UK companies in developing their US market entry strategy and support UK companies already active in the US
• Providing assistance to US companies looking to set up or expand in the UK and support US companies already active in the UK market
• Working with partner organisations and the UKTI-US network, contribute to trade missions, compile visit programs, plan company meetings and introductions, and produce and manage events
• Developing and implementing marketing programs to build market awareness, identify and develop key sponsorship activities, and attend association events/trade shows to build relationships and generate leads
• Co-ordinate as necessary with UKTI’s internal network and partners, and with inward investment agencies of the English regions and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland
• Working across teams to ensure both Trade and Investment objectives are identified and realized for all events

Applicants should have all of the following:
• A good educational background
• Excellent research, analysis and report writing skills, particularly the ability to produce good quality outputs across a wide and often unfamiliar industry sector range
• A good knowledge of UK and US business cultures
• The ability to work in a team environment towards shared goals
• An understanding of both private and public sector operations
• Good networking and communication skills, proven administrative skills
• Self-starter, high self-motivation and initiative
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential

Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy/Consulate may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders or A or J1 Visa holders. If you hold a Visa other than an A or J1 Visa you are not currently eligible to work at the Consulate. All successful candidates will be subject to security clearances and background checks
