Intern, Education Programs (Washington, DC United States)

The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), a national leader in building public environmental literacy, is seeking a college undergraduate for our Education programs. The Education Intern should be a high-energy, confident individual with excellent research, writing and database/computer skills. The intern will be supporting a fast-paced department with many big projects and have a strong background and interest in environmental science, education or a related field. The applicant should therefore be comfortable juggling multiple priorities, be detail-oriented, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and be a team player.
Responsibilities:
Performing regular updates to Classroom Earth (http://classroomearth.org) and Planet Connect (http://planet-connect.org). Collecting exemplary curricula and resources for dissemination on these Web sites. Researching student internships and volunteer opportunities. Researching prospective partners. Promoting grants and Web sites through many outlets, including social media, newsletters, etc.

The ideal candidate will have:
A background and interest in environmental science, education or currently pursuing a degree in a related field. Excellent research, written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with most major social media tools and direct experience as an active user on multiple outlets (e.g. Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc.). Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience with website editing (or the ability to quickly learn how to do so). A positive attitude and a desire to promote environmental literacy in K-12th grade classrooms throughout the country. Ability to work independently and in collaboration with our small program team. Good sense of humor.

Start Date: As early as April 15 2011 (open ended start date). This is an unpaid position and the work schedule can be 20-40 hours per week; hours are flexible within organization operating hours (9:00a – 5:00p).

End Date: 6 months from beginning of the internship.
